[MCR] Columbia Icefields Conditions

Subject: [MCR] Columbia Icefields Conditions

Just back from five days in the Columbia Icefields Region. Recent precipitation from Sept 24-26 has put 15cm of new snow above 2300 meter....that gets deeper as you go higher up to 40 cm. Strong SW winds were common thru the period creating pockets of wind slab to watch out for. Crevasses are now deviously hidden with the new snow making route selection challenging. Lots of water ice is beginning to form on high northerly aspects.
