Conditions have changed very dramatically in the
last 4 days in the OHara area. There has been, in my experience, an
unprecedented amount of melting in a very short time. Mt. Lefroy and
Glacier peak have huge new ice patches and large volumes of water running on the
faces. There is no contigous snow/ice route to the summit ridge of Lefroy or
Glacier now.
Mt Victoria is now in excellent summer condition
and should remain so till the next snow falls. Mt Huber is in great shape for
now but the ice is coming there also. Hungabee and Biddle need a few more hot
days but have made amazing progress.
Today was the first slightly cool day and no
significant avalanches and little rockfall wre observed.
