ACMG Mountain Conditions Report Summary for the Rockies and Columbia Mountains issued July 23, 2015

Dry conditions persist in the Columbia and Rocky Mountains.Typically, glaciers are bare, crevasses are exposed and snow gullies have the appearance of black ice. Choices that minimize exposure to snowy and icy places are a good thing at the moment.

Recent reports from the Bugaboos suggest that the Bugaboo Snowpatch Col is an unfriendly place with exposed ice and persistent rockfall. Route alternatives that avoid this access point have been utilized by guides working in the area for a couple of weeks already. However, the routes themselves are bare and snowfree, a good thing if you can get to them.

The Rockies are also very dry with glacier tongues (and higher) showing bare blue ice. Berscrunds are wide and gaping on places like Mt Fay, Mt. Quadra and others around the Lake Louise group. Generally speaking common snow and ice routes are out of condition, or very close to it. Good alternatives are high alpine rock routes.

The weather forecast looks quite unsettled for the weekend. So rock climbing venues will provide the best chance for success this weekend.
